ABOUT
Our News section, which started with 15 students, has today a staff of 40 students from different nationalities and degrees. We publish every week day during the Academic Year news related to the University of Amsterdam, the city of Amsterdam, as well as columns about sports and politics.
The Amsterdammer is an independent student-run media outlet founded in March 2018.
University
Coverage of stories involving the University of Amsterdam, they can vary from the student life to events organized in CREA.

Opinions
It includes columns, letters to the editor or editorials written by the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor Online or Opinion Editor.

At The Amsterdammer, we follow an editing line before publishing our articles. This said, it is clear that every position is necessary for the well-functioning of the paper and that everyone’s active contribution is essential.
We follow an editorial line before publication which forms the following editorial board:
Editor in Chief
The editor in chief is the leading figure at The Amsterdammer. This editor secures the overall functioning of the media outlet, managing the editors, the copy desk and all content published in The Amsterdammer News.
Editors
Editors are the leading figure of their section. Together, the Metro Editor, University Editor, Opinions Editor, Sports Editor and Audiovisual Editor secure and edit the content for their respective section.
Copy Desk
The Copy Desk Chief manages a group of Copy Editors, who edit the articles and columns after they have been edited by the section Editors.

● Attend the weekly News Meeting
● Attend the bi-monthly Editorial Meeting
● Secures that the Metro Reporter has a story assigned, provides the content on time and edits the content
● Responsible for assigning stories to the Metro Reporter
● Delivers the article to the copy editor after first edition
● Assures the articles are written according to the Associated Press stylebook

● Attend the weekly News Meeting
● Expected to write at least one story every 10 days
● Expected to write 1 investigative article per month
● These reporters will work with the Metro Editor to produce stories.
● Investigates issues relevant to the students related to the city of Amsterdam, preferably news they would otherwise not have access to in English
● Responsible for covering breaking news and writing about crime
● Write articles according to the Associated Press stylebook
University
Editor: Josephine Sylvestre
● Attend the weekly News Meeting
● Attend the bi-monthly Editorial Meeting
● Secures that the Campus Reporter has a story assigned, provides the content on time and edits the content
● Responsible for assigning stories to the Campus Reporter
● Delivers the article to the copy editor after first edition
● Assures the articles are written according to the Associated Press stylebook

● Expected to write at least one story every 10 days
● Expected to write 1 investigative article per month
● Responsible for producing weekly features about student association at UvA. They can vary from ISN to sports.
● Responsible for the coverage of the Student Council elections on a weekly basis
● Investigates issues relevant to the students related to the student parties goals
● These reporters will work with the Campus Editor to produce stories that can vary from breaking news to enterprise stories
● Communicates constantly with student associations at UvA
● Write articles according to the Associated Press stylebook
Opinions
Editor: Zoya Abu Zhamra
● Attend the weekly News Meeting
● Attend the bi-monthly Editorial Meeting
● Secures that the Columnist and the Cartoonist provide the content on time
● Leads the Columnist and the Cartoonist by giving them a feedback
● Delivers the article to the copy editor after first edition
● Assures the articles are written according to the Associated Press stylebook

Editor in Chief
Editor in Chief: Max Kikken
● Leads the weekly General Staff Meeting and provides an overall feedback of the publications
● Oversees staff and editorial workflow
● Edits all written submissions in preparation for publication
● Offers guidance to contributing writers and staff
● Contributes content in the form of columns, editorials, or news articles as necessary
● Monitors WordPress and Google Docs to make sure all drafts are posted on the day they are due
● Serves as a member and leader of the editorial board
● Monitors the website and its layout alongside the website coordinator
● Monitors Slack and the good communication among the staff
The EIC trainee is a new position at the Amsterdammer that will train a staff member to become the Editor in Chief in September 2020. They assist the editor-in-chief when necessary and works as a freelance reporter or copy editor.
